Month of Gratitude

October: Thanksgiving, pumpkins, falling leaves, cozy clothes. The windows of the studio overlooking Doyle are lit up with vibrant yellow trees lining the street. We are embracing the new season and the beautiful transition it brings.

This year, we have been exploring Radical Self-Acceptance, each month focusing on a different theme and opportunities for greater integration. October’s theme is GRATITUDE.  Being grateful helps us feel better in our bodies and our minds. Focusing on and expressing gratitude decreases stress, reduces feelings of depression, and increases feelings of happiness (Psychology Today). This month we’re reading The Five-Minute Journal; an interactive daily gratitude practice.

We have a lot of great things coming up in October and can’t wait to share them with you!

The first week of October (from the 1st to 5th) all classes will be by donation as we look to express gratitude by extending generosity to our community. Cash and donation items will be collected for Food for Thought’s Backpack Program. There are over 4,500 children in the Central Okanagan that live in a food insecure home and are at risk of going to school hungry. Food for Thought aims to eliminate hunger in children, one child at a time. Through the Backpack Program, backpacks filled with food for the weekend are given to students who would go without. This incredible program ensures hungry tummies are filled even when children are not in school. Most needed items are:

·         Life Cereal

·         Chicken Noodle Soup

·         Nature Valley Granola Bars

·         Rich & Chewy Granola Bars

·         Peas

·         Corn

·         Diced Tomatoes

·         Black Beans

·         Salmon (can)

·         Tuna (can)

·         Chicken (can)

·         Peanut Butter

·         English Muffins

·         Tortilla Wraps

·         Bread

·         Pita Bread

·         Rice

·         Whole wheat pasta

We are so excited to announce our first workshop series! We have two special offerings starting this month.

The Foundations of Yoga: A 6-week series focused on building the foundation of a safe and effective yoga practice. Monday October 15 – Monday November 26, 7pm-8:15pm. This series will provide the details for safe alignment, safe transitions, and use of breath, with space for you to ask questions. This series will be great for the beginner, and it's also beneficial for those who wish to strengthen the foundation of their practice. All classes will be taught by Master Yoga Teacher and Occupational Therapist Natalie Bishop. Investment is $145 + tax, $95 + tax for members. Breath for Enhanced Performance:  A 6-week series focused on breathing techniques and postures to support and enhance your athletic performance and your life. Tuesday October 16 – Tuesday November 20, 7pm-8:15pm. The series will focus on yogic breath techniques (pranayama) and postures that can be used to increase volume, efficiency, alignment, and ease of breath. All classes will be taught by our Yoga Teacher and Occupational Therapist Natalie Bishop. Investment is $145 + tax, $95 + tax for members. Space is limited, register now on Mindbody or in the studio.
