Long lazy days stretch into quiet subtle nights as the light lingers easing darkness in. Last night I sat on my back deck and watched as the cotton candy sunset turned into rolling thunderstorms. Nature’s changes reminding me to be present to whatever is unfolding. We can approach our inner experience with the same wonder as watching the evolving sky. Observing thoughts in the mind, sensations and emotions in the body without attaching a story or judgement to our experience, simply observing and noticing. Pink clouds. Flashes of lightning. Thoughts of ease. Feelings of anxiousness. Mindfulness practices (through yoga and meditation) help create these skills of observation. And what we observe we become aware of, and what we become aware of we can change.
The Yoga Sutra we are exploring for July is Sutra 2.13 – Our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are powerful and will manifest as our reality. We can decide what type of life we want to create. It starts with noticing. Slowing down long enough to know what the thoughts are, how the feelings show up, and what messages we choose to tell ourselves about them.

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic support of Rooftop Yoga! It is so fun to offer you this unique experience. Rooftop Yoga is every Monday and Wednesday at 7:30am and Friday at 6:30am. In an effort to accommodate as many people as possible and to better serve you, we are updating a couple of things for these classes:
Please BRING YOUR OWN MAT. If you do not have your own mat, let us know.
Rooftop classes are starting to fill up. To ensure you have a spot and to avoid disappointment, especially so early in the morning, please reserve ahead online or in studio.
Rooftop classes begin before the Innovation Centre is open. A staff member will be in the lobby 15 minutes prior to the start of class to let you in.
After checking in with our team, head straight to the 7th floor.
Twists and Backbends: A Heart Opening Yoga Practice
Join Tessa Murray on July 10th from 5:30-7:30pm for a special twists and backbends class. This 2-hour practice will lead you through a vinyasa flow to open and prepare the body physically and energetically to open the heart. With the intention of opening our heart centre, the space we practice in will become a safe, sacred container. You will be guided through a tension melting flow to warm and create space in the body, so you fully experience what you can receive when your heart is open. The practice will close with restorative postures and meditation. Investment is $35 per person. Space is limited. Book your spot now online or in studio.
Downtown Block Party
On Saturday July 13th from 10am-4pm Bernard Avenue will be closed to traffic and filled with local vendors, food, shopping, music, and entertainment. Muffins and Mimosas in support of Third Space Mind
Join us on Sunday July 28th at 10am for a sweet and special rooftop event. We’ll start the morning with a 75-minute yoga class, moving through a fun flow and ending with gentle restorative postures. Stay and enjoy the view while sipping a mimosa and tasty pastries from Sprout and coffee from Third Space Coffee. Tickets are $35 + tax with all proceeds going to Third Space Life Charity. Third Space Life Charity, through Third Space Mind, provides free and supported counselling and mental health services to students at UBCO and in the local community. Their goal is to close the gaps in mental health care in the Okanagan by offering clinical counselling and specialized programs regardless of socio-economic situations.
